Lizzie Baker, a modern-day abolitionist trapped in 1859 during the Civil War, struggles with her desire to return to the future while witnessing the dire circumstances faced by slaves and women in her era. As she fosters her healing skills with the Collins sisters and aids her beau Josh in transporting runaway slaves on the Underground Railroad, Lizzie also starts a relief agency to support the army and runs a medical clinic for injured soldiers. With danger looming from the Home Guard and bushwhackers, her journey intensifies as she and Josh participate in the harrowing Battle of Gettysburg. Amidst their quest for a way back to 1969, they face life-altering choices when a mysterious light offers a chance for escape, but the path to salvation becomes fraught with peril.
