Dorothy Kathleen Broster, born on September 2, 1877, in Liverpool, was a notable author who began her education at Cheltenham Ladies' College and continued at St Hilda’s College, Oxford, where she faced the challenges of being one of the first female students. Her literary career was briefly interrupted by her service as a Red Cross nurse during World War I, after which she dedicated herself to writing full-time, achieving acclaim with her historical fiction novels, particularly "The Flight of the Heron" and its sequels. Broster also penned poetry and short stories, including the acclaimed weird fiction piece "The Couching at the Door." She passed away on February 7, 1950, leaving behind a legacy of intriguing works.
