Dorothy Kathleen Broster (1877-1950) was a pioneering British author known for her historical fiction and contributions to literary scholarship. Educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College and St Hilda’s College, Oxford, she began her writing career through collaboration with a college friend before serving as a Red Cross nurse during World War I. After the war, she dedicated herself to writing full-time, gaining acclaim for her best-selling novel "The Flight of the Heron" and crafting acclaimed short stories, including the classic weird fiction piece "The Couching at the Door." Despite being intensely private, her literary legacy endures through her diverse body of work.
