Dorothy Kathleen Broster, born in 1877 in Liverpool, was a pioneering female writer who made significant contributions to historical fiction. Educated at Cheltenham Ladies' College and St Hilda’s College, Oxford, she became one of the early female students there, earning her degrees later in life. Broster's literary career included notable works like the best-selling novel "The Flight of the Heron" and the classic weird fiction piece "The Couching at the Door." After serving as a Red Cross nurse during World War I, she focused on writing full-time until her death in 1950.
