Pearl Cleage is an Atlanta-based African American fiction writer, playwright, poet, essayist, and journalist whose work often explores racism, sexism, Black women’s lives, AIDS, and social justice. Her first novel, What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day, became an Oprah’s Book Club selection in 1998 and a New York Times bestseller; she has since published novels, plays, essays, poetry, and memoir.
