Lawrence Hill is a Canadian novelist, essayist, memoirist, and former journalist whose writing often explores Black history, race, identity, belonging, and human rights. He began his writing career as a newspaper reporter and has published acclaimed novels including Some Great Thing, Any Known Blood, The Book of Negroes (published in the United States as Someone Knows My Name), The Illegal, and Beatrice and Croc Harry. His work has won major honors including the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize, the Rogers Writers’ Trust Fiction Prize, and CBC’s Canada Reads.
