Laila Lalami is a Moroccan-American novelist and essayist whose fiction often explores immigration, identity, belonging, colonial history, and political power. Her books include Hope and Other Dangerous Pursuits, Secret Son, The Moor’s Account, The Other Americans, and The Dream Hotel, as well as the nonfiction work Conditional Citizens. Her writing has earned the American Book Award and other honors, and she is a Distinguished Professor of Creative Writing at the University of California, Riverside.
