Taylor Caldwell (1900–1985) was a British-born American novelist who wrote more than forty novels during a five-decade career, many of them New York Times bestsellers. Her breakthrough came with Dynasty of Death (1938), published under the pen name Taylor Caldwell at editor Maxwell Perkins's suggestion. She became known for emotionally charged family sagas, historical novels, religious fiction, and dystopian stories, including Captains and the Kings, Dear and Glorious Physician, The Listener, and Your Sins and Mine.
