Philip Hoare is an English writer, filmmaker, curator, and professor emeritus of creative writing at the University of Southampton. He began his writing career with biographies of Stephen Tennant and Noël Coward, followed by books on British cultural history, art, literature, and the sea. His acclaimed Leviathan or, The Whale won the 2009 BBC Samuel Johnson Prize for Non-Fiction, and he has since written The Sea Inside, RISINGTIDEFALLINGSTAR, Albert and the Whale, and William Blake and the Sea Monsters of Love.
