John Muir (1838–1914) was a Scottish-born American naturalist, author, and conservationist whose books, essays, and magazine articles brought the landscapes of the Sierra Nevada, Alaska, and other wilderness regions to a broad audience. His writing helped shape American environmental thought and contributed to the creation of national parks.
