John Maddox Roberts (1947–2024) was an American novelist whose writing career began with the science-fiction novel The Strayed Sheep of Charun in 1977. He wrote science fiction and fantasy, including Conan and Stormlands novels, and became best known for the SPQR series of historical mysteries set in ancient Rome. He also wrote the Hannibal’s Children alternate-history series and some novels under the pseudonym Mark Ramsay.
