Nelson DeMille (1943–2024) was an American novelist who began writing police detective novels under pen names in the mid-1970s after serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He later became a full-time writer under his own name, publishing 24 novels, including seven New York Times bestsellers, and was known for his witty, action-driven suspense fiction. His notable works include The General's Daughter, Plum Island, The Lion's Game, The Cuban Affair, and The Maze; he also coauthored The Deserter and Blood Lines with his son Alex DeMille.
