W. E. B. Griffin was the pen name of William Edmund Butterworth III (1929–2019), a prolific American novelist who wrote or co-wrote more than 160 books under multiple names. After serving in the U.S. Army during the occupation of Germany and the Korean War, he began writing while working as a civilian Army publications officer and became a full-time author after the success of his early novels. He was best known for serialized military, political, espionage, and detective fiction, including the Brotherhood of War, The Corps, Badge of Honor, Honor Bound, and Presidential Agent series.
