Laura Martínez-Belli is a Spanish novelist born in Martorell, Barcelona, in 1975. She began publishing fiction with Por si no te vuelvo a ver in 2007 and has since built a career writing novels rooted in Mexican history, including The Empress, La otra Isabel, and La mesa herida. She has lived in Spain, Panama, and Mexico, and also teaches historical-novel and creative-writing courses.
