The Hidden Portrait

In "The Hidden Portrait," Laura Martínez-Belli weaves a gripping historical novel and Cold War thriller that centers on Soviet secretary Olga Simonova, who defies orders to destroy Frida Kahlo's poignant masterpiece. Set against the backdrop of postwar Moscow, Olga's connection to the painting reflects her own struggles within the oppressive Soviet regime. The narrative unfolds across dual timelines, intertwining the lives of both women as they confront profound challenges to protect beauty and truth in a turbulent world.
