Shelter from the Storm

Nineteen-year-old April Wilton begins her service in Portsmouth, immersing herself in dockyard life amid a diverse group of soldiers during wartime. She quickly develops a romantic connection with Daniel, an American soldier of Sioux and African descent, whose presence offers him a sense of freedom from his past life in segregated South Carolina. Their relationship blossoms amid the unpredictable and spontaneous atmosphere of war, but the complexities of race and conflict threaten to challenge their bond.
