Once known as Orrice and Effel, siblings Horrace and Ethel Cooper have grown up in the care of their adoptive parents, Jim and Rebecca. Horrace becomes infatuated with shop assistant Sally Brown, leading him to frequent her workplace in pursuit of her affection. Meanwhile, Ethel finds herself entangled with a poet, leading to unforeseen and dramatic consequences that will intertwine their lives in unexpected ways.
