After his marriage crumbles and the criminal Jhereg organization hunts him down, Vlad seeks refuge with his distant relatives in the peculiar town of Burz, known for its papermaking industry. However, his stay takes a mysterious turn as he discovers that locals are tight-lipped about his relatives, and they react fearfully to his family name, Merss. With no sign of the expected witches’ coven and an oppressive Guild suppressing local artisans, Vlad finds himself needing to unravel these strange dynamics while navigating the challenges of a foreign yet familiar world.
