Edward George Earle Bulwer-Lytton, born on May 25, 1803, in London, was a celebrated author and politician known for his early literary achievements and diverse body of work, including historical fiction, romance, and science fiction. After publishing his first collection of poems at a young age, he gained acclaim with his novel "Pelham" and went on to explore various genres while also founding the Monthly Chronicle magazine to document the era's advancements. His political career included serving as Secretary of State for the Colonies, particularly focusing on British Columbia, before his health declined due to a chronic ear condition, ultimately leading to his death on January 18, 1873, in Torquay.
