Edwidge Danticat is a Haitian American novelist, short-story writer, memoirist, and essayist whose writing career began with her acclaimed debut novel, Breath, Eyes, Memory, published in 1994. Her work frequently explores Haiti, the Haitian diaspora, family, migration, political violence, memory, and identity across fiction and nonfiction. She has also written travel narratives and books for children and young adults, and has received major honors including a MacArthur Fellowship and the National Book Critics Circle Award for Autobiography.
