Patrick McGrath is a British novelist and short-story writer born in London in 1950. He began publishing with The Grotesque in 1989 and became known for modern Gothic fiction exploring madness, obsession, sexuality, and unreliable perception. His major works include Spider, Asylum, Martha Peake, Port Mungo, and Last Days in Cleaver Square; he has also taught creative writing and lives in New York and London.
