Colleen McCullough (1937–2015) was an Australian novelist who began writing after a career as a neurophysiologist. Her first novel, Tim, appeared in 1974, followed by the international bestseller The Thorn Birds in 1977, which enabled her to write full-time. She later wrote major historical novels, including the seven-volume Masters of Rome series, as well as romance, dystopian fiction, and the Carmine Delmonico mystery series.
