Stephen R. Platt is an award-winning historian and author whose nonfiction focuses on modern China, Chinese-Western relations, and military history. His books include Provincial Patriots, Autumn in the Heavenly Kingdom, Imperial Twilight, and The Raider. He is a professor of history at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and has also written for publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Atlantic.
