Eric Caplan is a historian of American psychiatry and the author of Mind Games: American Culture and the Birth of Psychotherapy (1998) and When Healing Harms, a history of the landmark Osheroff v. Chestnut Lodge malpractice case. His writing combines archival scholarship with cultural and medical history, examining how institutions, ideologies, and power shape mental-health care. He has taught at the University of Michigan, the University of Chicago, and Wesleyan University.
