David Simon is an American author and journalist who worked for twelve years as a crime reporter at The Baltimore Sun. He wrote Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets and co-authored The Corner: A Year in the Life of an Inner-City Neighborhood with Ed Burns, both acclaimed works of narrative nonfiction about Baltimore. He later became a television writer and producer, creating HBO's The Wire.
