Austrian-born writer, artist, and naturalist Joy Adamson moved to Kenya in 1937 and became internationally known for Born Free (1960), her account of raising Elsa the lioness and returning her to the wild. She followed it with Living Free and Forever Free, and later wrote wildlife, conservation, travel, and autobiographical works including Joy Adamson's Africa, The Peoples of Kenya, and The Searching Spirit.
