Barrett Tillman is an American author, historian, and aviation commentator whose writing career began with magazine work and his first book, an operational history of the Douglas SBD Dauntless, published in 1976. He has written roughly 50 books, including military histories, biographies, aviation studies, novels, and short fiction, and has contributed hundreds of articles to periodicals. Since 1990, he has worked primarily as a full-time author and novelist, focusing especially on U.S. naval aviation and air warfare.
