Mario Vargas Llosa (1936–2025) was a Peruvian novelist, essayist, journalist, and playwright whose career helped define the Latin American Boom. His fiction frequently examined political power, authoritarianism, social inequality, and individual freedom, in works including The Time of the Hero, Conversation in the Cathedral, The Feast of the Goat, and Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter. He received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2010.
