Pearl S. Buck was an American writer who grew up in China and began publishing stories and essays in the 1920s. Her first novel, East Wind, West Wind, appeared in 1930, followed by The Good Earth, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. She published more than seventy books across fiction, biography, autobiography, poetry, drama, children’s literature, and translation, and received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938.
