T. J. English is an American journalist, screenwriter, and nonfiction author who has written professionally for more than four decades. His first book, The Westies (1990), launched a career documenting organized crime, criminal justice, and the American underworld through deeply reported narrative nonfiction. He has also written for publications including Vanity Fair, Esquire, Playboy, New York magazine, and The New York Times, and contributed to the television crime dramas NYPD Blue and Homicide: Life on the Street.
