David Morrell is a Canadian-American author best known for First Blood (1972), the novel that created Rambo and launched his career in action fiction. He earned a Ph.D. in American literature from Penn State and taught at the University of Iowa while writing bestselling spy thrillers, mysteries, horror novels, and other fiction. In 1986 he left academia to write full time and has since published more than thirty books, as well as comic books and writing-related nonfiction.
