Kareem Abdul-Jabbar began his writing career with the autobiography Giant Steps, published in 1983 with Peter Knobler. He became a best-selling author and cultural critic, writing books about African-American history, sports, race, education, and social justice. He later expanded into fiction with the Mycroft Holmes mystery series, co-written with Anna Waterhouse, and into children’s and young-adult books with Raymond Obstfeld.
