Nathaniel Philbrick is an American author best known for vividly researched narrative histories and maritime nonfiction. After working as an editor at Sailing World magazine and writing several books about sailing, he turned to American history with Away Off Shore and went on to publish acclaimed works including In the Heart of the Sea, which won the 2000 National Book Award for Nonfiction, Mayflower, and books on the American Revolution and the American West. He lives on Nantucket and frequently writes about American history, seafaring, and the people who shaped the nation.
