Homicide detective Hayashi Teruo and his partner, Miyazaki Shinji, navigate their personal and professional lives in Tokyo while investigating a series of grisly murders that echo a previous case from Shinji’s past. In the supernatural realm, Shinji’s role as a Shinigami is called into question as spirits vanish from the Sanzu River, and Shinji faces suspicion of destroying ghosts. As the cases intertwine and Shinji’s powers become unstable, both men are forced to confront hidden truths from Shinji’s dark history and their future together.
