The Past Is Never Dead

In The Past is Never Dead, Harry MacLean explores the trial of James Ford Seale, a Klansman involved in the 1964 kidnapping and drowning of two black hitchhikers, and examines the broader implications of justice and accountability. The book details the legal challenges of prosecuting such cases decades later, highlighting the ongoing struggle of a state grappling with its history of racial violence. Through this gripping account, MacLean offers a compelling meditation on the complexities of redemption and collective memory.
