Lady Catherine, the Earl, and the Real Downton Abbey

Lady Catherine, the Earl, and the Real Downton Abbey explores the history of Highclere Castle and its notable inhabitants, focusing on Catherine Wendell, an American who married into the Carnarvon family. Set against the backdrop of post-World War I Britain, the book highlights the challenges faced by the estate and its residents amid changing social and political landscapes of the 1920s and 1930s. Drawing from a wealth of archival materials, the narrative also pays tribute to the staff who have helped preserve the castle's legacy across generations.
