In the Arctic town of Chukchi, Police Chief Nathan Active investigates the discovery of a human jawbone, leading him into a complex murder case involving multiple suspects connected to a dismembered woman's remains found in an ice cellar. With the help of his Alaska native grandmother suffering from dementia and the town’s tribal healer, Active navigates a tangled investigation that touches on personal and cultural themes. As he delves deeper into the case, he also contends with PTSD from a previous shooting, adding to the emotional intensity of his pursuit for justice.
