Death in the Highlands

In fall 1965, as the South Vietnamese republic faced imminent collapse, North Vietnam aimed to strike decisively by targeting the American Special Forces camp at Plei Me, strategically located along the Cambodian border. During the siege that began on October 19, 1965, North Vietnamese regiments executed a bold plan to overwhelm the camp while ambushing the anticipated rescue forces. Supported by elite troops like "Chargin" Charlie Beckwith and the newly formed 1st Cavalry Division, the defenders engaged in intense confrontations that marked the beginning of significant clashes between the US and North Vietnamese armies.
