Fort Pillow

In April 1864, Union forces at Fort Pillow, consisting of nearly 600 troops including many Black soldiers, faced a fierce Confederate attack led by Nathan Bedford Forrest. The battle resulted in significant casualties, and the event became a powerful symbol of the Civil War's larger struggles over race, freedom, and American identity.
