Seventeen-year-old Emma has spent her life evading the Institute, an organization that separates the Gifted from their families to protect against the Cursed, creatures that consume Gifted energy. Forced to join the Institute, she struggles with using her powers for an organization she despises, all while forming an unexpected bond with Dimitri, a young Cursed man.
