Chariot on the Mountain

Set before the Civil War, this story follows Kitty, a savvy and educated woman who is also a slave and the biological daughter of Samuel Maddox. After Samuel’s death, Mary Maddox grants Kitty and her children their freedom, leading to a perilous journey toward emancipation with the help of the Underground Railroad. However, their path to safety is fraught with danger as Kitty faces a harrowing return to Virginia and a dramatic trial that will determine her and her children’s future.
