In the 1990s, marine scientist Brian Kingzett discovered round Olympias oysters on a remote beach along Canada's western coast, only to later learn that these native oysters were in significant decline. Ten years later, he partnered with Betsy Peabody and a team from the Puget Sound Restoration Fund to revisit that spot and investigate the oysters' survival. Their research aims to utilize the natural beds of these ancient oysters to inform habitat restoration efforts in Puget Sound, offering potential solutions to the broader issues facing the world's oceans.
