In London, October 1890, crime-scene photographer Sarah Bain is thrilled to be marrying Detective Sergeant Barrett, but their wedding quickly turns ominous when they uncover a murder in the church crypt. The victim, spirit photographer Charles Firth, has left behind a mysterious photograph featuring a ghostly figure, drawing Sarah and her companions into a web of intrigue involving the city's spiritualist community and a host of potential suspects. As they delve deeper into the case, Sarah confronts her own family's dark history, revealing compelling connections between the past and present that challenge her skepticism about the supernatural.
