The Difference

Ellen Anderson Gholson Glasgow, born in Richmond, Virginia, on April 22, 1873, was a prominent Southern writer known for her exploration of class and gender struggles in the changing contemporary South. She published her first novel, 'The Descendant,' at just 24, and became increasingly active in the women's suffrage movement, though her enthusiasm waned over time. Her short story collection, ‘The Shadowy Third & Other Stories,’ featured notable tales like ‘The Difference,’ while her 1941 work, ‘In This Our Life,’ boldly addressed racial injustices and earned her a Pulitzer Prize. Glasgow passed away in her sleep on November 21, 1945, at the age of 72.
