Kek, a young boy from Africa, navigates the challenges of a cold Minnesota winter after arriving in America, where he experiences snow for the first time. Alone and searching for his missing mother, he begins to forge new connections with a girl in foster care, an elderly woman with a struggling farm, and a cow named after the word for "family" in his native language. Through these friendships and his cherished memories, Kek draws strength and hope as he learns to adapt to his new life in a foreign land.
