Shanghai Sun

In 1628, Yuan Chonghuan, an esteemed general of the Ming Emperor, rises to lead the North-East Army against invading Manchus, displaying exceptional bravery despite being outnumbered. After a decade of victories, political intrigue undermines him, leading to his wrongful execution, during which he curses the Emperor. As the tragic events unfold, including the downfall of the Emperor and the salvation of his daughter by Portuguese sailors, the story weaves a legacy that connects the past to the lives of two modern-day Americans of Portuguese descent, forever changed by this ancient curse.
