In the early 19th century, Thomas Jefferson crafted an innovative version of the gospels by distilling the core teachings of Jesus and eliminating aspects he deemed extraneous. By compiling verses from the four canonical gospels into a cohesive narrative, Jefferson aimed to create a streamlined account of Christ's words. Although this work, known as The Jefferson Bible, remained unpublished during his lifetime, it was later printed in the early 20th century and is now preserved at the United States National Museum.
