In 1899 South Africa, the brewing conflict between the Boers and the British colonies is on the brink of erupting into full-scale war. Colonel Penrod Ballantyne is tasked with recruiting and training troops while his wife Amber accompanies him, eager to explore the land at risk. Simultaneously, in Cape Town, Ryder Courtney supports the British war effort, but their son Leon, seeking honor and adventure, sneaks away to join his uncle at the front.
