Fire on the Horizon

Set in South Africa in 1899, this story follows two families caught in the chaos of approaching war, as their lives intertwine amidst the conflict between the Boer republics and the British colonies. Colonel Penrod Ballantyne is sent to Mafeking to prepare for battle, while his wife Amber, a novelist, faces the challenge of fleeing with their baby amid the outbreak of war. Across the country, Ryder Courtney uses his influence to support the British war effort, but his family’s journey takes a poignant turn when their son Leon attempts to join the fight. The narrative explores themes of loyalty, courage, and the personal turmoil faced by families during a time of upheaval.
