Love and Saint Augustine

In "Love and Saint Augustine," political science professor Joanna Vecchiarelli Scott and philosophy professor Judith Chelius Stark present a revised and accessible English translation of Hannah Arendt's early dissertation, originally written under the guidance of Karl Jaspers and inspired by Martin Heidegger. This work explores Augustine's concept of caritas, or neighborly love, while connecting Arendt's reflections on social life amid political and moral upheaval across decades. The translation incorporates Arendt's own revisions and offers additional insights from personal documents and recollections, shedding light on her intellectual journey from 1929 Heidelberg to 1960s New York.
